Master Big Bang Art Post: To Feel You Underneath My Skin

Ok, so I was on vacation and I thought I would have internet... and then I didn't... so this is late, but last Wednesday my Big Bang author - fairygrrl45 - posted her story - To Feel You Underneath My Skin - and you can see my attempt at watercolor, after not picking up a brush for over a year - here.

I have more to add to that... but it might have to wait a day or two due to my brain being scrambled at the moment.

The Hope 2 Haiti project is underway.

Random Acts has set up a LJ account which they are documenting the project on.  It can be seen here if anyone is interested.   It's pretty cool!

They are also updating on Twitter and on Facebook.

Originally donations for the project were only being collected through June 20th, but they are still about $30,000 short, so it has been extended until June 30th.

If you are in a position to be able to donate, please do.  Even a $5 donation will help. I can take cash, check, or PayPal and apply it if that helps.  You can donate here through my team page or PM me.

This is an amazing project.  If you have not checked it out yet, please do.  I recommend watching the video here for an overview.

Here is the plan for the final community center:
It's meant to double as a community center and an orphanage.  Someone donated solar panels.  It's going to be amazing!!  I have so much love for the Random Acts team.  ♥

Working on my fanfic article for Talking Writing...

... and I would very much appreciate it if you could comment with a link to your favorite work of fanfic ever.

Doesn't matter what the subject is/what type it is/what it is about.

My original idea to write about the craft of it has turned into me writing about my personal relationship with it... based mostly on seeing the other pieces for the summer issue which all seem to follow that trend.

However, I am looking for a variety of quotes and, honestly, I find my own reading habits narrow on just a few fandoms.

Hope to Haiti update

Hey Everyone! Just opened my e-mail to find an e-mail from Misha with an update on the Hope to Haiti project. I thought some of you might be interested, so I am copying it in here.  (I already e-mailed it to those of you who have donated.)

Here it is:

Thank you for your awesome gift to Random Acts’ Hope to Haiti Project. Without your generosity, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything.

As you know, we’re going to Haiti in June to put some of the funds raised to excellent use. Haiti was ravaged by an earthquake in January, 2010, and has struggled to move toward recovery. Many of the people living in the hardest hit regions still exist in subpar conditions due to the destruction of infrastructure, death toll from the quake and lack of progress to rebuild. With your aid and shared commitment to help us support them, in June, 2011, we’re traveling back to the Haiti orphanages we assist. I’ll be there with Matt Cohen and some of the Random Acts staff along with those industrious, amazing supporters who’ve raised $5,000 or more. We’re going to be filming, tweeting and taking pictures while we’re there building a community center to house and feed some of Haiti’s homeless and hungry children. Keep your eyes on the Random Acts website and twitter account for updates. Matt and I will probably tweet a little too.

Another portion of your donations will go to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan through a donation to Shelterbox. The condition in Japan is still dire with thousands still missing, the nuclear situation still lethal and hundreds of thousands left homeless. Your kindness will help provide safe havens for people who have nothing left.

The remainder will be used for our core mission: conquering the world one random act of kindness at a time. I believe that one genuine act of kindness between two people can create a ripple effect that can flow outward and touch many, many other people. And today, we all need to feel that, create that and be a part of that on a regular basis. This is the type of action that can be mind-changing and, yes, world-changing. Random Acts will continue to support a variety of these projects from around the world that are submitted to us by people just like you. These projects are designed to have a lasting impact on a diverse group of deserving groups and individuals.

We’ll keep you updated on our progress through our Random Acts website, so stay tuned.

Thank You,

Misha Collins

If anyone wishes to donate to help this wonderful project, Liz and I taking donations for it here.  You can also learn more on the Random Acts website.

Help us build a community center in Haiti!

So, Liz and I have decided to try to raise $1,000+ to help the Random Acts Hope for Haiti project.

Basically, what it is, is that in June 2011, Misha Collins, Matt Cohen and the Random Acts team will be in Jacmel, Haiti to help "build a refuge for some of Haiti’s hungry and homeless children".  This is an amazing project and something which definitely needs to happen.  Here is a shot of the community center they are planning to build

Liz's and my goal isn't so very big at $1k, but I want to make sure we reach it.

So, this is me asking for donations to help with this project.  I am not usually the fund-raising type in this sort of way, but this seems like a project which needs backing.  I have great hope for Random Acts and if you have not checked out their website yet, you should.

You can donate here on Liz's and my team page

Even donations of $5 are much appreciated and help.  If you want to donate but don't feel comfortable signing up through Crowdrise to do so, I can also take donations by check, cash, or PayPal and I'll send them in.  PM or e-mail me - hadley [at] - if you'd prefer to do it that way.

I'm debating whoring out my knitting/sewing/baking skills to raise funds.  Would anyone be interested in that?  I'll knit/bake/or sew something for you in return for a donation?
